On a Lighter Note

4:09 pm Elizabeth, Family, Nicholas

We took NCL to the doctor this week for his 12 month check-up. (The picture above has nothing to do with the doctor - I just hadn’t posted any pictures from our All Church Retreat back in October.  If you click on the picture above - you can browse through the rest of the album).  So, back to the 12 month check-up.  As always, it’s great to hear that Nicholas is a healthy little boy.   He has a large head and his weight and height are proportionate.  He is doing all of the things he should be doing/learning except for words.  He has a lot to say…but we can’t understand any of the words he is saying.  He loves to read his books (my dad laughed when I told him this because he didn’t believe me), if we give Nicholas a book - he will turn the pages and point to all the things on the page and he “talks.” I think he is making up his own story. It’s really, very cute.

At this doctor’s appt, I had to fill out a few questionaires–development stuff (they were “tests” if you ask me).  “Is your child pointing at objects and trying to get you to look at them?”–things like that.  Then, one of the questionaire’s was looking for any signs that your child might be exposed to lead poisoning.  You will NEVER guess what the last question on the sheet was:  “Does your child eat Mexican candy?” I kid you not.  I asked the doctor and I guess they have tested Mexican candies for lead and the tests have come back positive!!!  We don’t even give Nicholas American candy…..but you can bet your life we will NEVER let him have Mexican candy!!

NCL is walking better and better every single day. He can pivot now, which seems to be very helpful when he wants to change his destination in “mid walk.”   I think the dog is shaking his head, wondering WHY we let this little creature learn to use his 2 legs.  Roscoe was perfectly happy when NCL was crawling around on all fours, just like him.
