A Longer Hike: Rainbow Falls
July 12, 2012 Vacation No CommentsWell, after a rough night (we were awake from 1am until just past 4am with a feverish kiddo), we decided to pack a lunch and brave the hike to Rainbow Falls.
After doing Devil’s Postpile yesterday in the heat and with two whiny boys — I told Joe that there was NO way I was going to hike a MILE farther EACH way – to Rainbow Falls. AND – there was a fire 20 years ago that wiped out a TON of the forest trees on the way to the Falls — which means, little to NO shade to get there.
Yes, it’s obvious that God heard my tired cry — and gave us all the strength to make the trip. We packed ibprofen for AJ – to keep him comfortable (and keep the fever down). We had plenty of water and lots of food.
The boys did great (despite our late start — we had pancakes & sausage for breakfast), the weather was a lot less hot today and we had some cloud cover. We got to play down by the water for awhile after eating lunch. The boys always love that. Nicholas walked/hiked the whole way with NO complaining. AJ fell asleep in the backpack on the way back. Joe was a TOTAL champ for carrying Anthony the whole way there, all the way down & back up the stairs, and all the way back. Over 3 miles of all that extra weight.
We did good. Really good. Still can’t believe we actually did it — after a long night, and with a sick kid. Amazing.
We are headed to Mammoth tomorrow. Looking forward to a fun day up there.
