Coming Home

9:18 pm Elizabeth, Family, Nicholas

Yeah, I know. We have been home for awhile now – 2 weeks to be exact. It’s a bit strange to me that it’s already mid-January..where in the world did the end of the year go?

We jumped right back into our San Diego life.  NCL’s first weekend home and this is what he did:

Outdoor play in our VERY un-landscaped courtyard.  Nicholas doesn’t know the difference..he just sees dirt and trucks.  He spends a lot of time out there, playing with shovels and pushing his very noisy lawnmower around (thanks Becca — Joe actually tried to get rid of it last weekend because the noise drives him crazy….but, NCL saw it before it was put in the car–so, it’s still around).

One of the things we missed over the holidays was the arrival of most of our Christmas cards!  We had our mail stopped in mid-December when we left, and I just knew we would have quite the pile of mail when we got home.  I was happy that over half of the mail waiting for us was labeled “The LaGreca Family” – and that means one thing in December = Christmas card pictures, cards and newsletters! (We got home from the airport at 10:30pm….and I just HAD to open EVERY single Christmas card that we had received).  Unfortunately, we only got to enjoy them for a little while — and then I had to take down our only Christmas decorations (leaving them up past January 10th is just not ok).

And yes, I still hung up nearly every single card we got, even though I knew they wouldn’t stay up for long.  We still got to enjoy them for a little while.

For the LaGreca’s, the new year has started off pretty busy.  The “Great Re-Organize” has begun, with the end of goal of NCL in his very own, new room – and the office set up in the livingroom.  We aren’t there yet, in fact, I think we are still pretty far from that goal. At least we have started cleaning stuff out — one large load has been donated to charity — AND NCL’s toddler bed was purchased yesterday!

To be honest, Joe and I are both a little nervous about this “big boy bed” thing.  NCL still likes his crib and has YET to climb out.  Mom & Dad both LOVE the crib for the containment-factor alone!  It will be very interesting to see how things go when NCL can get up out of bed anytime he wants.  How in the world will nap-time work?

So, we are home. It’s good to be home.  It’s nice to get things done and feel productive. I was just thinking about it and I am not sure I can remember the last time we have been “home” for 2 weekends in a row.  Seems like the months leading up to Christmas were insanely busy – and then we were gone Thanksgiving weekend and shortly after – we left for Buffalo.  I will continue to enjoy the January weekends at home.

Nothing better than a boy and dirt…except a boy with a noisy lawnmower. :-)
