Out in the Desert

10:10 pm Anthony, Elizabeth, Family, Nicholas

I will start by saying…..I am out of my funk.  Yahoo!  And, what did I tell you….all I needed was some SLEEP!  It’s an amazing ‘medicine’ — it works every time.

So – after the LONG last week that we had, we had to pack up the RV and head out to the desert. I say “we HAD to” because we booked the trip a few months ago and there were two other RVs going with us (The Morgan’s and my Dad).  I won’t lie, on Wednesday afternoon – I was totally ready to back out. Joe was talking about taking the boy for the weekend and leaving me home to rest.  It was tempting!

I am not a huge fan of the desert, never have been. There are a couple of reasons.  It’s dry — really, really dry. I prefer to be around water of some kind (ocean, lake, etc).  It’s hot and there is very little shade.  It’s very brown. There are animals in the desert that scare me to death! When it’s windy, what do you do? With so much sand around – it seems like you would have to lock yourself inside!  BUT – we booked this trip, because it was near the Hot Springs (which means….water!)  So, I was willing to try it out.

There is one thing we know for sure…NCL doesn’t care where we go in the RV…he LOVES the weekend trips.  Being outside all day is a dream come true.  And the fact that he got to play in the water was an added bonus.

Bring trucks…and boys are happy.

(Julie Yeh – next picture if for you. NCL LOVES this train shirt. He was so excited to put it on!)

The next picture is a classic NCL move. From now on, I think I will call it “Layin’ & Playin’” – maybe I should work on a patent?

In the late afternoon, it was time to set up the Horse Shoes.  Dad is pretty good – he beat Penny by quite “a few” points. Josh and Joe played next..and, let’s just say..they need a little more practice.

Daddy and Nicholas watch the game from the sidelines (when Daddy got up to play – I taught NCL how to say “Yah Daddy!” …a very cute little cheer).

And, for those of you that have been waiting for a picture of me, here you go.  I asked Joe to take a picture because I finally remembered. It’s not the best picture, but it will have to do. You get the point. I have a belly – and it’s big. MUCH bigger than my first pregnancy at 15 weeks.

And, a few pictures of the “Hot Springs” – which look exactly like pools.  This first one is actually cold (chilly water). Perfect for the desert, in the middle of the day.  But my boys weren’t huge fans of the cold water.  They liked the warmer water in the kiddie pool.

Best part about the kiddie pool…it was only 2 ft deep, so NCL could stand up and splash around all by himself.  He LOVED it!

It was a good weekend trip (after we got through the first night of VERY little sleep).  Once we all had a long nap, in the air conditioned motorhome, on Saturday afternoon…we were ALL much happier.  And, I found one thing that I absolutely LOVE about the desert.  The night. If you have never seen the desert at night – you are really missing out. I can’t even believe the stars!  Wow!  It was beautiful.  (However, some of you will get a kick out of this…..being in the desert this weekend…in an RV…reminded me an AWFUL lot of “The Hills Have Eyes” – in fact, I couldn’t get that stupid movie out of my head the whole weekend. I was just happy that we were surrounded by lots of other RVs/people.)

One last picture…..this is what Joe did on Sunday afternoon.  It’s quite a job….think of washing your car X 100!

The belly is amazingly cute. You don’t look fat at all! Glad you had a great weekend.

Looks like so much fun even though I’m not sure I’d be fan of the desert either. Have you read Skeletons on the Sahara? It’s about a bunch of shipwrecked sailors two hundred and fifty years ago who are enslaved by African nomads. That book basically beat curiosity about the desert right out of me.
